Earlier this week, John Fox named Kyle Orton the opening week starter for the Denver Broncos, contrary to what many Denver fans were expecting. Denver fans were expecting Tim Tebow, the popular choice after an impressive three week span to finish the 2010 season, to be named the starter. With Orton being named the started and a first round QB waiting in the wings, Let the QB controversy begin.
Tebow played pretty good for the Broncos to finish out the season. He completed 50% of his passes and threw 5 Td's to 3 INT's but winning 1/3 games, but Kyle Orton threw for over 3600 yards and 20 TD's and 9 Int's, with Wins over playoff teams in Seahawks and KC Chiefs.
Kyle Orton, only 28 years old, has been in the league for only 6 years and was not looking forward to going back to the bench in favor of Tim Tebow. Even made public comments about not returning to Denver if backup QB was his option.
I personally believe that the Denver Broncos are making the right move. Orton did nothing wrong to earn a demotion and actually put up pro bowl type number most of the season. Orton played great with only reliable wide receiver all season in Brandon Lloyd with injuries to Eddie Royal, Demaryius Thomas, No Tight End, and a lack of a sufficient running game to help bolster the offense. Why start a QB that only completed 50% of his passes and lost 2 of his 3 games? Who didn't win the starting spot from the guy that you want him to replace
Broncos fans, be patient, Tebow is the face of the Broncos for the future, and will work his ass off to become a great player, don't be in such a hurry to throw him to the dogs under a new coaching staff, new vice president of football operations in John Elway, new scheme, give him time to learn the QB position and develop. I bet Tom Brady, Mike Vick, and Aaron Rodgers are happy they learned from the bench.
